Remarks

• globose and solid shell with 18 ribs on the left valve.
• no confusion possible with other European Pectinidae because of its height (<40mm) and the rather convex valves.
  
  
• In South Africa lives the subspecies Aequipecten commutatus peripheralis (Dijkstra & Kilburn, 2001)
